You can change Settings and personalization in Windows 10 through the Settings options. Control Panel can still be found in Windows 10 even though most of its functions have been moved to Settings. So what options can we change with Settings and Control Panel in Windows 10?
Setup and configuration of Windows 10 is now split into two: Settings and Control Panel. Setting’s User Interface design comes with a more modern and ergonomic for tablet users, they make it easier for them to access and manage using a touch. The classic Control panel on Window 10 is not much different to the previous Windows version that contains a variety of settings for hardware, devices, etc.
Windows 10 change settings and control panel options
The easiest way to open the Settings on Windows 10 is with the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + i, or via Start -> Settings. When Settings is open, you will see some categories of settings.
From the categories in the settings, you can see the options that you have never seen before such as touchscreen, tablet, and privacy settings geared toward phones and tablets. But there are also options in the settings that were previously contained in the control panel such as Network & Internet and Windows Update. System (Display, notifications, search, power), In the System option in Settings, you can find almost all the general settings and setup utilities of your Windows 10. In the About section, you can find your system info that contains information from your computer’s basic specs like processor, RAM, and what Windows 10 edition you are using. In this section you can also change the name of your PC by clicking “Rename PC”. There are several links to other settings such as change or upgrading your product key Windows edition, these links will take you to the Control Panel.
Still in System Settings Option, in the Storage section you can see how much space is left of your hard drive on every partition and external media that is currently connected to your computer. You can also set the default save location for each file types (apps, documents, music, pictures and videos).
Apps & features section contains a list of applications or software that is installed on your Windows 10 Computer. You can modify or uninstall the application here to free up some space on your hard drive.
The changes on Windows 10 mostly to adjust the use of the tablet. To change your preferences into tablet mode, go to Tablet mode section. Switch tablet mode on if you are running Windows 10 on the tablet device.
In the Display section, you can set the zoom (enlarge text, icons, and other items), screen resolution, and orientation.
Devices (Bluetooth, printers, mouse, keyboard). In the Device category, you can see what devices are connected to your Windows 10 computer such as mouse, keyboards, printers, bluetooth, touchpad, USB, and anything that are connected to your computer will be displayed here. On this section you can add or remove the devices and do the setup and configuration of all devices.
If you are having problems with the device that is connected, you can troubleshoot or look for the drivers on the links contained in Related settings under the detected devices. These links will take you to Devices and printers in Control Panel or Device Manager. On the USB section you can set whether to show a notification or not when a problem occurs when you connect a USB device.
Another important part of the Devices Settings is the Autoplay section. You can set the application that launch automatically such as media player or file explorer when the removable media is plugged in.
Network & Internet is a place where you can set how you connect to the internet or a local network. The menu that comes out in this section depends on how you connect to the internet. If you are using Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi section will appear along with toogle on or off and the name of the network you are connected with and also other networks that are in the area around you.
Other options on the Network & Internet is Airplane mode which is typically used in tablet devices. Such as airplane mode on a smartphone or tablet, the windows 10 airplane mode will disable all wireless communication.
Data usage displays the data usage in the last 30 days based on how you connect to the internet. How many gigabytes have you spent when you connect to the internet using WiFi or celluler data.
You can add a VPN connection on the VPN option. You can set the server name or address of the VPN Advanced Settings along with the related settings.
Windows 10 still including Dial up setting as one of the options of how you connect to the internet. Ethernet section will appear if you are connected to the wired network, the network name will appear when you are connected, click on the network name you can set the IPv4 address, physical address, and so on.
The last part of the Network & Internet is Proxy settings. If your network is blocking some access to certain websites, you can set the IP address (domain name) and port of your proxy server here to bypass it.
Personalization, in this section you can manage how your Windows 10 look. You can set the desktop wallpaper, locl screen, color schemes, themes, and start menu in accordance with the character and taste of yours.
Accounts section is where you set up your profile and add another computer users who use a guest, the options available including: email and accounts, Sign-in options, Work access, Family and other users, and Sync your settings.
The Time & language, beside through the settings, you can also access this setting option via Date and time settings on the taskbar. Obviously this section allow you to configure the time, date, language and region based on your location. You can also download the basic language pack here. For convenience, there is also the option to set time automatically and set the time zone automatically.
The Ease of Access option is where you set how you use your Windows 10, the ease of access that are tailored to your needs. There are settings of Narrator, Screen Magnifier, High Contrast for users with visual impairments to see different items on the screen, Closed captions, Keyboard and Mouse, and other options where you can find visual settings such as turn off Windows animations, show the desktop background, and cursor thickness.
Privacy option organize your privacy in using Windows 10. You can set the location and whether to send diagnostic information to Microsoft when an error or trouble occurs . You can also set a specific application that has access to the device that is connected to your PC such as webcams or microphones.
Update & security, you can check for the update on Windows 10 via this option, set a restart schedule after the update successfully installed. Security settings such as Windows Defender, Backup, and Recovery can also be found here. To activate your Windows 10 product key, go to the Activation section and click Change product key, or click Go to Store if you’d like to purchase a different edition of Windows. The last part is “For Developers” section that is normally used by Windows application developers, regular users sometimes use these to sideload apps.
Windows 10 Control Panel options
The traditional Control Panel is still available in Windows 10 even though most of the functions and config settings of Windows 10 can be found in Settings as described above. Settings is designed to meet the needs of tablet users with ease of access and a modern look. You still can find the fungtions or options in the Control Panel that are also available in Settings, even some of the functions that exist in previous versions of windows are really moved to Settings.
The easiest way to access the Control Panel in Windows 10 is through the Start menu or by right clicking on the start menu and choose Control Panel. Below are the options contained in the Windows 10 Control Panel, largely a duplication of Settings.
From what we have learned, the Control Panel still plays an important role in managing Windows 10. Settings options are connected to the Control Panel for more advanced settings such as relates settings contained in each of the options in the Settings.
